Study reveals the world's most frequently hashtagged cities from Rome to Rio and LA to Dubai

  DUBAI – There's a new way of finding out a city's popularity and all it takes is a hashtag. A new report from Hashtag of the World revealed the world's most popular cities based on the hashtags they've amassed on photo sharing app Instagram. Dubai ranked fourth on that list, with more than 47 million posts in 2016. Hashtag the World founder Lucas Ribeiro said more people are turning to the internet to tell their travel story in photos. On Instagram, Ribeiro said, "600 million users love to share their beautiful pictures about their holidays and exploring their own city". The report also shows that Los Angeles, Tokyo, Las Vegas, San Diego, Rome, Atlanta, and Rio de Janeiro have experienced an annual growth of over 100 per cent in terms of hashtag usage. "We can clearly see that the Olympics had an impact on the growth in ranking with #RiodeJaneiro and #Tokyo," said Lucas. According to a recent survey, 97 per cent of the millennials share pictures while travelling, especially on Instagram.
