3 sentenced to jail, fined for attempted rape in Abu Dhabi

  ABU DHABI – Three men were sentenced to jail and fined for the attempted rape of a woman in a remote desert area in Abu Dhabi. The Abu Dhabi Criminal Court also sentenced the trio, identified through their initials A.S., M.M. and S.M., to pay fines ranging from Dh30,000 to Dh50,000. There were no further details released about the men's identity. The court heard that the trio, who appeared intoxicated at the time of the incident, had ganged up on the woman and her male companion while in a remote part of the desert. They threatened the male victim with a knife and then attempted to rape the woman, who was able to resist their assault. The male victim was able to escape and call the Abu Dhabi Police, who immediately responded to the couple’s distress call. The trio tried to flee in their vehicle as soon as they spotted the police patrol car, and also crashed into the police car as they tried to escape arrest. They were eventually arrested and detained pending their trial. M.M. was charged with drug abuse and sentenced to three years in jail and fined Dh50,000. He was also sentenced to one year in jail for crashing into the police car, and another six months in jail for driving under the influence of drugs, and fined Dh30,000. He has been banned from driving in the UAE. He was also sentenced to six months in jail and fined Dh30,000 for obscuring the licence plate of his vehicle. S.M. was sentenced to three years in jail and fined Dh50,000 for drug abuse. The third defendant, A.S., was also charged with drug abuse and sentenced to two years in jail and fined Dh50,000.
