4 fined Dh50,000 in UAE for Covid-19 violations

DUBAI – Four people were fined Dh50,000 and named and shamed among 10 others for violating the UAE’s Covid-19 safety measures. The UAE Attorney General and the Federal Prosecution for Emergencies Crises and Disasters recently released the names and photos of the violators, after warning in May that those who flout the country’s precautionary measures will be named in the media.

Fined for violating home quarantine

The four who were fined Dh50,000 included UAE national KH.M, who violated home quarantine orders. According to the Ministry of Health and Prevention, people who test positive for Covid-19, or who have been in close contact to someone who has contracted the coronavirus, must stay home and self-isolate until their next test. Patients who test positive for coronavirus are asked to wear electronic wristbands to ensure that they are complying with quarantine requirements. The wristband will only be removed after the patient tests negative twice. Breaking home quarantine orders will result in a Dh50,000 fine. A second such violation will increase the fine to Dh100,000, or a prison term will be imposed that could extend up to six months. Meanwhile, A.T. and A.R., both Arabs, and Asian expatriate M.H. were fined Dh50,000 for failing to undergo hospitalization, which is mandatory for infected people. Two Emiratis and one Arab man were also fined Dh3,000 for violating “stay home” orders during the National Disinfection Programme, which runs daily from 10pm to 6am. Seven Emirati men – named as S.A., M.S., S.S., M.S, M.S., H.S and A.A. – were fined between Dh5,000 and Dh10,000 for breaking the ban on gatherings, meetings and celebrations. The spokesperson of Emergency and Crisis Prosecution said that legal action has been taken and charges filed against the violators. Meanwhile, the Public Prosecution urged the public to adhere to precautionary and preventative measures to protect the health and safety of UAE community members and to support government efforts to contain the health, economic, and social impact of the coronavirus.
