Motorists driving into Abu Dhabi will soon pay more when passing through the emirate’s Darb road toll gates. The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) announced that from September 1, the daily and monthly limits on Darb toll charges will be scrapped. Currently, private vehicles are subject to a maximum charge of Dh16 per day, and monthly caps ranging from Dh100 to Dh200 depending on the number of vehicles registered. Those limits will no longer apply starting September. The morning peak hours will remain the same — 7am to 9am, Monday through Saturday. However, evening peak hours will be extended from the current 5pm–7pm to 3pm–7pm. Darb tolls will continue to be waived on Sundays and public holidays, and exemptions remain for People of Determination, senior citizens, retirees, and low-income families who qualify. The Darb tolls were first introduced in January 2021. The ITC says the latest changes aim to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion during the busiest hours. Operations will be handled by Q Mobility, a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi Developmental Holding Company, in coordination with transport authorities. ICA/Expat Media
