UAE launches 'Be Aware' campaign, awareness of cybercrime

The Sharjah Police launched the "Be Aware" campaign on Wednesday (February 22) to raise the residents' awareness against electronic fraud and blackmail. According to Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Butti Al Hajri, Deputy Director of the Media and Public Relations Department of the Sharjah Police, the department was keen to intensify security campaigns that aim at awareness about cybercrimes among residents. The police would use various media channels such as print, audio, visual, and social media platforms, including their official website, to disseminate awareness messages. Col. Al Hajri reiterated that these awareness messages would contain specific instructions, such as not sharing personal or banking information with anyone, not responding to anonymous or unreliable calls that request an OTP bank code, and opening emails with unknown links. He also advised community members to immediately report any extortion they encountered through Hemayah or to call 065943228 or 999 for emergency cases. The cybercrime awareness campaign is part of the strategies of the Ministry of Interior for the year 2023-2026 that will continue until next March. RZSP/Expat Media
