Dh2,000 fine for Dubai tenants using laundry rails outside window

DUBAI – Tenants in Dubai have been warned that they could face a fine of up to Dh2,000 for installing laundry rails and other illegal objects outside their balconies or windows. Property developer Nakheel has sent out notices to community members warning them that installing unauthorised exterior attachments or alterations will attract a fine of Dh2,000. “Airing laundry in the balcony or hanging them from a window or railing, distorts the image of the building and is not permitted,” Nakheel said in a notice on November 9. The property developer also said that the installation of satellite dishes or any other type of antennae in balconies is “illegal and strictly prohibited”. Nakheel also urged tenants to refrain from throwing wase and sharp objects from the balconies and to stop feeding birds that could create a “mess due to droppings”. Communities managed by Nakheel include International City, Al Furjan, Palm Jumeirah, Jumeirah Village, The Gardens, Discovery Gardens, Jebel Ali Village, Dragon City and Warsan Village.
