Dubai businessman pays Dh57,000 hospital bill for Filipino twins

  DUBAI – A Dubai businessman has reportedly paid the Dh57,000 hospital bill to help the family of Filipino twins born prematurely at a local hospital. Hasan Fardan Al Fardan, chief executive of Al Fardan Exchange, paid off the bill at NMC Royal Hospital after learning of the family’s plight through a story in The National. The businessman said it was a chance to "give back to the communities". The twin girls’ mother, Monica, said she was overwhelmed by the businessman's generous donation and the unexpected public support for her family. The Filipina said other community members also donated groceries and clothing. Previously, Monica was forced to exchange her passport as guarantee at the hospital so that she and her husband could bring the twins home despite their unpaid bill. Monica makes Dh1,500 per month as a nanny while her husband works as a cleaner at a salon. The hospital bill climbed up for the couple after the cost of the twins’ prolonged hospital treatment went past Monica’s annual health insurance coverage of Dh150,000. Thanks to the donation of businessman Al Fardan and a Dh20,000 discount from the hospital, Monica can now look forward to raising her babies worry-free.
