Dubai Creek is set for a dramatic night-time transformation after Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum approved the Dubai Creek Lighting project, an ambitious initiative designed to enhance one of the emirate’s most historic landmarks.

The project will create an integrated visual experience along an 8km stretch of Dubai Creek, combining advanced lighting technology with heritage preservation to strengthen the area’s appeal for residents and visitors. Dubai Municipality said the initiative will enhance the creek’s historical and cultural identity while creating a vibrant new night-time destination in the heart of the city.

New life for a historic landmark

The project will introduce an innovative lighting system across promenades, waterfront walkways, creek entrances, heritage markets and building façades.

Officials said the lighting design will improve safety and accessibility while highlighting architectural and heritage features that have played a central role in Dubai’s development.

The initiative aims to transform the creek into a destination where visitors can experience the area’s history, culture and waterfront atmosphere long after sunset.

“Dubai continues to develop transformative urban projects guided by a comprehensive vision that places people and quality of life at the heart of its priorities, while adopting innovation, sustainability, and advanced technology as key pillars in shaping the future of the city,” Sheikh Hamdan said.

Completion expected in 2027

Dubai Municipality said the project is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2027. The lighting scheme will create a unified visual identity across the creek while celebrating its importance as one of Dubai’s oldest commercial and cultural centres.

Officials believe the project will boost tourism, support cultural activities and strengthen the attractiveness of surrounding neighbourhoods and waterfront districts.

Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director-General of Dubai Municipality, said the initiative aligns with Dubai’s broader efforts to create sustainable urban destinations.

“Dubai Municipality continues to develop transformative projects and initiatives that support the goals of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan and contribute to transforming public facilities and spaces into integrated urban destinations that foster community engagement, support the creative economy, and strengthen Dubai’s attractiveness and global competitiveness,” he said.
