Dubai to reopen gyms, cinemas, businesses from May 27
DUBAI – Dubai will resume the gradual reopening of businesses, including gyms and cinemas, on Wednesday (May 27) as part of the easing of Covid-19 restrictions in the emirate. Fitness centres, education and training centres and entertainment facilities will also reopen for business on Wednesday. However, precautionary measures will still be observed, including requiring visitors to wear a facemask. Children under the age of 12 will not be allowed to enter these establishments. On Monday, Dubai authorities also shortened the curfew, announcing that the public will be free to go out from 6am to 11pm starting on May 27. From Wednesday, the curfew will be enforced from 11pm until 6am, during which time disinfection of public facilities will continue and the public will be expected to stay at home. “We are aware of the pressures many sectors are facing because of the repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic,” said Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council. On May 12, the Dubai Economy revealed its “reopening” plan for malls and offices after Ramadan. According to the new rules and guidelines, malls, shopping centres and retail outlets will return to “normal operating hours” as long as the curfew is observed. Shoppers will be required to wear face masks when entering malls and thermal scanning will still be done at all entrances. Children under the age of 12 and adults over the age of 60 will not be allowed to enter the malls. Stores can also accommodate a maximum of 30 percent of their total customer capacity.
