E-scooters now available for rent in Dubai
DUBAI – E-scooter rental stations opened in Dubai on Monday (October 26) at the start of a trial run of the service in the emirate. “We are happy to take part in this initiative. E-scooters can be really helpful to those who want a cheaper and faster way of commuting,” Sunil of Arnab scooter rentals told Expatmedia.net on Monday (October 26). Sunil said the company is offering the first two rides free. Watch the video Arnab is one of five companies approved to run e-scooter rentals in five locations in Dubai. Riders can also rent e-scooters from Skurrt, Careem, Lime and Tier in these areas. At the Dubai Metro station close to Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard, Arnab and Tier are offering e-scooters for rent while Careem is offering bicycles for rent. E-scooter rental stations have been set up in Al Rigga, 2nd of December Street, Dubai Internet City, Jumeirah Lakes Towers and Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard. Dedicated lanes for e-scooters and bicycles have also been introduced in these areas to guide riders. E-scooter owners will be permitted to use them in these designated zones, but run the risk of being stopped by police in other areas. E-scooters must not be used on pedestrian pavements. Users can then use the app to scan the QR code to unlock the vehicle. An e-scooter rental costs Dh3, with additional 60 fils for each minute you use it after unlocking the vehicle. The rental cost will be deducted from the user's credit card or debit card linked to the app. Riders must be 14 years old or older in order to use e-scooters. The Roads and Transport Authority last week revealed plans of allowing e-scooter riders to use them on bicycle tracks and Dubai Metro stations in more areas, but this depends on the outcome of the e-scooter trial this week.
