Filipina in Dubai hits ‘slow service’ at DFA Manila as mother queues for more than 36 hours 

A Filipina in Dubai bemoaned the “slow service” at the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) in Manila after her mother queued for more than 36 hours outside its office just to get served.  In an exclusive interview with Expatmedia.net, April Abanggan said her mother tried to help her get her marriage contract authenticated after seeing the overseas Filipino worker wait in limbo for months.  “I have been trying to get our marriage contract apostilled since January, but it’s so hard because the slots are always full,” Abanggan told expatmedia.net in Filipino. Emails to the agency also went unanswered, she said.   The pregnant Filipina is unable to travel to the Philippines as she is due to give birth in Dubai. She needs her marriage contract authenticated for medical purposes in the emirate. “If I could, I would go home and process the paper myself but I am pregnant and I need the paper here in Dubai,” she said. When the DFA announced recently that it was finally accepting fully vaccinated walk-in applicants, Abanggan had no choice but to send her 55-year-old mother to DFA Alabang in Manila. Abanggan said her mother lined up in front of DFA Alabang as early as 2am on Monday (March 28). “They said they would accommodate 150 people, and my mother was 87th in line. She had stayed in the queue since 2am. The others ahead of her brought 3-4 documents, and my mother only had one,” she said in Filipino. “She basically stayed for more than 36 hours just to make sure she a slot,” she added. The Filipina said she was “devastated” that her mother had to suffer due to the service at DFA. “I was devastated that my mom needed to suffer and sleeplessness to make sure she gets a slot,” Abanggan said. Many Filipinos also raised similar concerns about the service at DFA Manila. The official DFA Facebook page is filled with comments on unaddressed inquiries and complaints.   "Napaka slow ng service nyo. Lol more than 2 months sa pag renew until now wala pa rin?? (Your service is slow. Lol more than two months for renewal and no update until now?)," Charm Eleazar Pajarillaga commented. Her comment was echoed by several Filipinos on social media, with many blaming the DFA for inconveniencing OFWs trying to process essential documents for work and travel.
