Filipino in Dubai 'saved bloodied child' injured in fall

  DUBAI – Man of the Philippines finalist Lance Gicano, 19, says he is no superman but the Dubai-based expatriate said he will always be proud of having saved a school boy he found unconscious and bloodied in the UAE. In a recent interview with Expatmedia.net at Teriyaki Boy in Dubai, Gicano revealed that he was 16 when the incident occurred during dismissal time at his school. “He fell down the stairs.. I don’t know what happened but I was walking behind him so I saw him fall down,” Gicano said in Filipino, adding that he immediately rushed down the stairs to check the boy, who appeared to be about 8 or 10 years old. “He was bloodied and unconscious… There was a lot of blood and I noticed he lost a few teeth. I hurriedly carried him to the clinic,” he recounted. Gicano said that the boy survived and received further treatment at a hospital. He said that the boy eventually recovered and was back in school. “It never occurred to me . I just knew his life was in danger. I just wanted to help the child,” he recalled. Gicano said that the boy’s parents and his teachers later thanked him for his quick action that saved his school mate. “They said it was good that I was there when it happened because if he had been left there he might have suffocated in his own blood,” he said. Gicano is one of 12 candidates in the male pageant Man of the Philippines, which culminates in coronation night in Dubai on Saturday (September 21).
