Filipinos in UAE release Christmas music video

DUBAI – A group of Filipinos in the UAE is celebrating the festive season with the release of an original Christmas song and music video in Filipino. It took 40 artists and two weeks to plan, compose and record the song and video called Bagong Pag-asa (New Hope), lyricist Christine Joy Sobrevilla and composer Ryan Murao told Expatmedia.net. “Our Christmas song "Bagong Pag-asa (New Hope)" is inspired by the sacrifices of our frontliners. Amid this situation, there's always hope and each day is a new beginning,” said Sobrevilla, who is also a business development analyst in Dubai. Sobrevilla said recording the music video was a challenge due to Covid-19 restrictions but their group managed to pull it off. “It was shot in different locations from sunrise to sundown, which was quite challenging for all of us. But we made sure that we followed safety guidelines and procedures during the shoot,” she said. Meanwhile, Murao, a Sharjah-based electrical engineer who composed the music, said there were “no lows”, only “many highs” while doing the project. “It took a multitude of talented persons sharing the same vision and goals to create this video,” Murao said. The composer said he took inspiration “from the current setting of coping up with the pandemic”. “During the pandemic, we have endured being far away from most of our friends and colleagues, but we have grown closer in our relationship with one another and even to God. "We became more optimistic about whatever life brings us, and we become more thankful. These positive changes will reverberate long after the pandemic and will surely make a positive impact not only to ourselves but to the whole world,” he said. Dubai-based event manager Michael Deo Atienza Macaraig was one of the talents who lent his voice to the music video. Macaraig said he was inspired to be part of the project to help spread the message of hope. “Facing this pandemic brought a realization that we must never give up or lose hope,” Macaraig said.
