Film Academy holds disciplinary proceedings against Will Smith
Just days after Will Smith's infamous incident during the 94th Oscars telecast on Sunday, the Board of Governors held an emergency meeting to discuss the consequences of Smith's actions. The statement from the Academy cited the standards of conduct tagging the incident with “inappropriate physical contact, abusive or threatening behavior, and compromising the integrity of the Academy.” Smith now faces "suspension, expulsion, or other sanctions permitted.” Not long after Will Smith slapped Chris Rock, he won the Oscar for best actor for “King Richard” but was then been given a 15-day notice of a vote regarding his violations and sanctions, and had the opportunity to provide a written response. The Academy was scrutinized for not handling the situation well and they responded by saying that they asked Smith to leave the Dolby Theatre but it was Smith who refused to do so. However, the Academy also realized that they could've handled the situation better. "We also recognize we could have handled the situation differently,” the Academy statement read. Smith publicly apologized to Rock issued by his publicist and posted on Instagram on Monday (March 28)"I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness. " The post stated. Will also apologized to the Academy, the producers of the show, and everyone who was watching it and expresses his regrets for his behavior.
