Helpline for Filipinos in UAE through Global PCR

  DUBAI – At the click of a button, Filipinos working overseas may now be able to contact the Philippine National Police (PNP) to seek police assistance for their families in the Philippines. Speaking to Expatmedia.net, Chief Supt. Rhodel Sermonia said that Filipinos working overseas can reach the PNP through its Global Police Community Relations program. Through the PNP Police Community Relations Group's Facebook page, Filipinos abroad can report crimes in their hometowns and seek assistance from Philippine-based law enforcement. Sermonia, who heads the Global PCR operations, said the initiative aims to connect to Filipino Overseas Workers (OFWs) and other Filipinos abroad. “We’ll be able to answer their concerns or queries, and address the problems of their loved ones in the Philippines,” Sermonia told Expatmedia.net. Aside from tips that may prevent crimes, Sermonia said the Global PCR program will also serve as a platform for the PNP to show rehabilitation and livelihood programs in the Philippines. Gemma Sotto, Head of Global PCR International, told Expatmedia.net that the program has been launched in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Riyadh, Qatar, Kuwait, Hong Kong, Macau, New York, San Francsico, Las Vegas, Milan, Rome and Italy. Sotto said the Global PCR, a brainchild of Sermonia, was conceptualized last year after a trip to Los Angeles, with Filipinos there raising concerns about the safety of their families in the Philippines. Sotto said that among the Filipinos who have contacted the Global PCR for help is an OFW in Hong Kong whose daughter went missing in Colorado. Sotto said that the Philippine police are in touch with local police and that the case is ongoing. Global PCR aims to create a platform of support and cooperation between the government and various organizations of Filipino communities abroad. It serves as a venue to explain the plans and programs of President Rodrigo Duterte’s administration for OFWs, while assuring them of government protection for their relatives in the Philippines.
