The Crime Branch of Delhi Police apprehended a woman and her son for murdering her husband, chopping him into ten pieces, and discarding his remains in a New Ashok Nagar drain near the Ramlila stadium in Pandav Nagar. The murder took place on May 30. Six body parts have been recovered while a search is underway for the missing remains. The accused have been identified as Poonam and her son Deepak. After cutting Anjan Das's body, the two suspects put the body parts in their fridge and gradually disposed of them. The police visited the Ramlila ground on June 5 after smelling a foul odor and found the human remains. "During the search in the area for three to four days, the police recovered several body parts including the skull. However, the body was unidentified following which a case under relevant sections of the IPC was registered at the Pandav Nagar police station and an investigation was taken up," said Ravindra Singh Yadav, the Special Commissioner of Police (Crime). "Police teams spoke to nearby residents and asked them about if anyone was missing but to no avail. CCTV footages were scanned but nothing concrete could be found. It seemed like a blind and gruesome murder." Yadav said the body was recognized after door-to-door police verification. After her husband went missing for 7–8 months with no complaint filed, Poonam was suspected. Late at night, neighborhood CCTV cameras caught Deepak carrying a backpack while his mother, Poonam, followed him. Police stated CCTV cameras saw them dispose of human remains in plastic bags many times. They confessed after being questioned. According to Yadav, after draining the blood overnight, they cut the body and disposed of it near Ramlila on June 1. Poonam told the police that her husband sold her jewelry and had extramarital affairs with her son's wife. Police said the body pieces were sent for DNA profiling, and the victim's family in Bihar is being contacted to obtain DNA samples. BKM/ Expat Media
