Chrisann Pereira has been cleared of charges of drug smuggling in the UAE but the Indian actress is reportedly traumatized by her ordeal. Pereira was detained at Sharjah Central jail for 27 days before being released on bail. Charges against her were dropped last week. The 27-year-old actress is expected to return to India as soon as Sharjah authorities release her passport. The National quoted her mother, Premila, as saying that the actress has seen a psychiatrist and has taken medication to help her get through the ordeal. “She is still traumatized,” her mother said. Pereira was arrested at Sharjah Airport on April 1 after customs officers found 47.1g of cannabis, poppy seeds, and illegal narcotics in a trophy she brought into the country. Her lawyer said she was not aware that the trophy, which was given to her by two men who posed as talent managers, contained drugs. Her lawyer said that the men told her she was scheduled to audition for a Hollywood series that will be filmed in Dubai. When she arrived at the Sharjah Airport, no one met her, and she also found out there was no hotel booking under her name. She alerted police at the airport about the trophy that the men said she was to hand over to their contact in the UAE. In an Instagram post, Pereira said, “On the day this happened, I was talking in a state of fear, panic, and crying… I couldn’t understand why this man or his team framed me.” Meanwhile, Mumbai Police were able to track and arrest the men who gave Pereira the drug-laden trophy.
