The Consulate General of India in Dubai has issued a warning against fake news circulating online, claiming that Indian exporters were advised to exercise caution when dealing with UAE-based companies. A fabricated press release, attributed to the consulate, was published by the website Juris Hour. The article alleged that certain companies in the foodstuff and general trading sectors were involved in fraudulent activities and unethical practices, prompting the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to issue an advisory. The misleading advisory even listed the names of companies reportedly flagged based on complaints from Indian exporters and international trade partners. It further stated that exporters could "liaise with Indian missions" in the UAE for assistance regarding trade disputes.

Consulate denies issuing advisory, requests removal

The Indian Consulate in Dubai has strongly denied issuing such an advisory. In a statement, the mission clarified: “The Consulate General of India in Dubai has not issued any such press release. We have requested Juris Hour to immediately remove this misleading information from its website.” Following the consulate’s intervention, Juris Hour updated its article, adding that the MEA had officially denied issuing any advisory related to the claims made in the report. “The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Government of India, has officially denied issuing any such advisory,” the website stated in its correction. The Indian diplomatic missions in the UAE regularly warn against fraudulent messages and scams that impersonate official government agencies to mislead the public.
