More job cuts in 30% of UAE companies, survey reveals
DUBAI – At least 30 percent of companies are planning job cuts following the economic impact of Covid-19, according to a new survey. A Mercer survey of more than 500 companies in the UAE revealed that 30 percent of companies planned to reduce their workforce by 10 percent in 2020. The largest number of job cuts was seen in the retail sector this year, according to the survey. ALSO READ: Who are likely to get salary increases in 2021 Meanwhile, 10 percent of UAE companies have cut salaries on a temporary basis in response to the slowdown in the market, with 19.4 percent of companies saying they froze salaries in 2020. Around 17 percent of companies delayed their salary increases by up to six months due to the coronavirus pandemic this year. However, the general market forecasts a salary increase of 4 percent in 2021, particularly for those working in the life sciences, energy and consumer goods industries.
