39 bodies excavated on land owned by cult pastor

At least 39 bodies were excavated on the land owned by a pastor in the village of Shakahola, Kenya who was arrested for telling his followers to fast to death. More shallow graves have yet to be dug up on the land belonging to pastor Paul Makenzi, who was arrested on April 14 over links to cultism, the Police chief said. Meanwhile, a total of 43 people have died related to cultism as four people also died, on April 13, discovered being starved because of extreme fasting to “meet Jesus quickly.” Makenzi has been on hunger strike for the past four days while in police custody. The pastor has already been arrested twice, in 2019 and March this year, concerning the deaths of children. He was released on bond, and both cases are still proceeding through the court. Local politicians have publicly denounced the spread of cults in the Malindi area, urging the court not to release the pastor this time.
