Miracle baby born to mother with artificial heart pump

A medical team at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center (KFSH&RC) performed a successful cesarean surgery without complications for a 32-year-old woman who lives on an artificial heart pump. The pump assists the heart as a bridge until a donor is available for a heart transplant. The woman's heart muscles have been severely weakened, making installing an artificial auxiliary pump necessary. She was referred to KFSH&RC for treatment after it was determined that she was pregnant, and the staff quickly scheduled her delivery to prevent any issues. This included controlling the artificial heart pump's function to meet the demands of each stage. A multidisciplinary medical team with seven different specialties provided the patient with the greatest standard of treatment. In the 32nd week of her pregnancy, they carefully monitored her to ensure she was healthy enough to have a cesarean section. The woman was moved to intensive care to continue monitoring her condition after the procedure was performed without incident. The infant was placed under the supervision of the neonatal critical care team. Because of the potential difficulties for both the mother and the fetus, including pump malfunctions that could threaten their lives, doctors typically advise against pregnancy in patients with a mechanical heart-assisting pump implant.
