For hundreds of thousands of Filipinos living in the UAE, Philippine Independence Day has grown far beyond a traditional community gathering. Known locally as Kalayaan celebrations, the annual events have evolved into massive reunions filled with concerts, cultural showcases, Filipino food, sports competitions and family activities that bring together overseas Filipinos from across the emirates. Philippine Independence Day is officially observed every June 12, commemorating the country’s declaration of independence in 1898. This year marks the 128th anniversary, with multiple Filipino organisations in the UAE preparing large-scale celebrations throughout June. Here are three major Philippine Independence Day events happening across the UAE this year:

June 7: Kalayaan 2026 at Dubai World Trade Centre

Dubai’s Filipino community celebration kicks off on Sunday (June 7) at Halls 1 and 2 of the Dubai World Trade Centre from 8am to 8pm, with free admission. The event is expected to attract thousands of attendees and will feature celebrity guests and performances from actress and singer Arci Muñoz, girl group G22 and P-Pop group 1st.One. Organisers said visitors can expect live entertainment, cultural presentations, family attractions, interactive exhibits and a Kalayaan Food Village serving Filipino favourites. Infinite Communities founder and chief executive officer Elena Cruz told Expat Media: “Kalayaan 2026 will once again showcase world-class Filipino entertainment, music, culture, and community spirit on one grand stage.” The event is presented through Emirates Loves Philippines, Infinite Communities and The Filipino Channel, with support from D&R Elegant Events, Urban Grid Group and VivaOne.

June 13: PID celebration at DWTC

Another major celebration follows on June 13 at Sheikh Saeed Hall 1 in Dubai World Trade Centre from 8am to 11pm. Organised by the Filipino Social Club, the event promises a full-day Filipino festival atmosphere featuring Larong Pinoy games, community parades, chorale competitions, robotics displays, sports tournaments and cultural showcases. Among the highlights are Philippine Chorale Festival, Filipino Community Unity Parade, Tula at Pinta competition, Pinoy Street Bazaar, Philippine Festival Queen Competition, Kids Barong and Filipiniana fashion show, free medical check-up, tournaments and more. The celebration will also include concerts, food displays and month-long Independence Day activities across the UAE. Organisers described the event as one of the biggest Independence Day celebrations in Dubai, encouraging Filipino groups, churches and companies across the UAE to participate.

June 20: PID celebration in Al Ain

Filipinos in Al Ain and Abu Dhabi can also join the Philippine Independence Day celebration on Saturday (June 20) at the Zayed Central Library from 9am to 5pm. Hosted by FilCom Al Ain Organization, the free event focuses on Filipino culture, unity and community engagement. Activities include cultural performances, youth presentations, community parade, bazaar and sponsor booths, free health screening and raffle draws. FilCom Al Ain Organization representative Charry Palencia told Expat Media that organisations, schools and companies from across Abu Dhabi are expected to participate. “The celebration aims to promote Filipino culture, unity, and community spirit among overseas Filipinos in the UAE. Admission to the event is free and open to everyone,” Palencia said. With concerts, cultural performances, food bazaars and family activities happening across multiple emirates, this year’s Kalayaan celebrations are expected to once again unite Filipinos from all walks of life in the UAE.
