POLO Dubai: ‘No appointment, no entry’ starting May 4, No OEC for Filipinos who entered UAE on visit visa or tourist visa

  DUBAI – Starting on May 4, the Philippine Overseas Labor Office in Dubai (POLO Dubai) will begin a “No Appointment, No Entry” policy for Filipinos seeking OEC and contract verification services, the agency told Expatmedia.net on Friday (April 29). “Starting May 4 we will strictly implement the 'No Appointment, No Entry' policy ," POLO Dubai told Expatmedia.net in a statement. OFWs can avail of their OWWA (Overseas Workers Welfare Administration) and OEC in the Philippines,” POLO Dubai told Expatmedia.net. ALSO READ: How to apply for OEC, contract verification The agency confirmed that it will only verify the employment contracts of workers who were not previously registered with the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA). "After the verification of employment documents, POLO shall advise the workers to process their OEC at the POEA upon their return/vacation in the Philippines," according to POLO Dubai. However, to accommodate the number of registered OFWs needing OEC or employment contract verification, POLO Dubai said it is opening more slots for appointment this May. For OEC issuance, POLO Dubai will entertain 150 appointments per day. Starting in May, POLO Dubai will also consolidate the employment contract verification and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) membership application or renewal as one appointment, with 250 appointment slots allocated per day. As Expatmedia.net reported on Friday, scores of Filipinos were seen queueing for hours outside POLO Dubai to apply for contract verification or OEC issuance. ALSO READ: 'Horrific queue' at POLO Dubai upsets Filipinos POLO Dubai told Expatmedia.net that the recent surge in applications for employment contract verification and OEC issuance was brought about by the “the lifting of the Covid-19 entry requirement in the Philippines and the easing of travel protocols in the UAE”. “A daily average of 700 Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), most of whom entered UAE on tourist visa or visit visa or through a third country recruitment, are seeking contract verification and issuance of OEC has been recorded from March to April. Most of them went home during Ramadan because of cheaper air fare compared with the December 2021 to January 2022 rates. Some of those who went home were emergency cases,” POLO Dubai told Expatmedia.net. Under the rules and regulations of the POEA, all OFWs are required to have an OEC when departing for or returning to their work overseas. The OEC, also known as exit clearance or exit pass, is a document certifying the regularity of recruitment and documentation of an OFW and proof of his or her registration with POEA. A worker exiting from the Philippines without OEC may be prevented by the immigration officer from leaving the country. An OFW who holds and OEC enjoys the following privileges: travel tax exemption, airport terminal fee exemption and reduced travel tax for spouse or dependents.
