7 buildings on Yas Island covered in images of birds in the UAE
Artist and Muralist, Fathima Mohiuddin channels her artistry to paint some of UAE's birds on 7 buildings of Yas Island. The muralist has been capturing winged creatures in her paintings since 2015 and took on the project which took her 3 months to complete with the help of her assistant, Marvelous Morph. Announcing the project on social media, she writes that birds as an artistic theme have come to symbolize “migration, flight, freedom, vulnerability, and living without borders”. She says that birds resonated with her in the toughest times of her life and drawing them allowed her to reach “a more resilient place today”. The birds from her mural were taken from the things she has learned throughout the project. They were species of birds that have settled and thrived in the region, some were birds that are threatened by habitat loss, including the collared kingfisher, which has blue wings and a white breast and is included in an ongoing preservation program in Kalba, Sharjah. “All together they make up this wonderful theatre of diversity. Each character strutting on to stage, showing off its features, telling its story, dancing their dance,” Mohiuddin says of her subjects. This project has been her largest commissioned project so far up to date measuring 8,630 square meters.
