Sharjah has announced a major Dh750 million transport project that will deliver a new tunnel, five bridges and upgraded road corridors designed to reduce congestion and strengthen links with neighbouring Dubai. The project, ordered by Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, is scheduled for a soft opening in November 2026. Officials said the development is one of the emirate’s most significant transport initiatives in recent years and is intended to improve traffic flow, shorten travel times and support continued urban growth. The programme is being implemented by Mubadara, the Authority for Initiatives Implementation, in cooperation with the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) and several government entities including the Sharjah Department of Town Planning and Survey, Sharjah Police General Command, Sharjah City Municipality, Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA), e& and du.

Stronger links to Dubai

The project focuses on two major transport corridors that connect Sharjah's residential districts with Dubai. The first corridor will enhance traffic movement between Al Taawun and Al Nahda, providing improved access to Al Nahda Bridge and Dubai. The second corridor involves upgrades to Al Khan Street, extending connectivity towards Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road. Together, the improvements will create stronger connections between the Lakes area, Al Taawun district and newer developments located along Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road. Officials said the project will also reinforce six major crossing points linking Sharjah and Dubai, helping to improve traffic distribution and reduce bottlenecks during peak commuting hours. The programme includes the construction of a new tunnel and five bridges designed to improve traffic flow at key intersections and reduce delays for motorists travelling between the two emirates. The infrastructure upgrades are expected to support both current traffic demand and future population growth while improving access between residential communities, commercial districts and major road networks. Officials said the latest project represents a long-term investment in transport infrastructure and urban mobility, supporting Sharjah’s broader development plans while improving daily journeys for thousands of motorists.
