Spanish man slapped wife live on TikTok, jailed

The court sentenced the Spanish man to a year in jail on Monday (February 27) after hitting his wife during a TikTok livestream. The court found the man guilty of violence against women. It prohibited him from coming near his wife within 300 meters, communicating with her for three years, and acquiring a weapon. The case file shows that the man was seen slapping his wife so hard during a TikTok real-time competition on January 28, in which one of the streamers was the victim. The images became viral in Spain. The court ruled that the defendant publicly and openly assaulted his wife, humiliating her and undermining her physical integrity. Although the woman refused to file a complaint, the court held that there was no need for a complaint from a victim of gender violence crimes. "Broadcasting the slap live is sufficient for the authorities to step in and protect the victim, regardless of whether she recognizes herself or not," the court added. The victim had also refused to press charges and take a stand against her husband during the trial. However, the court found that the victim had been mistreated for a long time due to past disputes.
