'Best Minister in the World' is a woman

  Just in time for international women's month, her Excellency Azucena Arbeleche, Uruguay’s Minister of Economy and Finance, was awarded The Best Minister in the World Award for 2022. Azucena Arbeleche was recognized for her efforts in her country's achievement of record-breaking exports and jobs growth that fuelled a strong COVID-19 recovery. “We always strive to achieve the common good through everything we do,” she said as she received the honor. The winner of the Best Minister in the World Award was honored by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai at the conclusion of the World Government Summit 2022 (WGS 2022). Under her leadership, the Ministry of Economy and Finance succeeded in implementing market-friendly fiscal measures which boosted trade, jobs, and investment. Along with her contributions is her establishment of COVID-19 funds, securing the resources needed to obtain vaccines, and driving investments in Uruguay's health sector. Azucena Arbeleche is the third woman to be hailed The Best Minister in the World Launched in 2016, The Best Minister in the World Award has been given to four ministers from three continents: Greg Hunt, then Acting Minister of Environment, Minister of Cities and the Built Environment of Australia; Awa Marie Coll-Seck, the Minister of Health of the Republic of Senegal at the time; Sri Mulyani Indrawati, Minister of Finance of Indonesia; and Ferozuddin Feroz, former Minister of Health of the Republic of Afghanistan.
