9-minute travel time between Emirates Road and SMBZR soon

  DUBAI – Travel time between Emirates Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road will soon be possible within 9 minutes instead of 25 minutes, according to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). The RTA said the improvement in travel time is part of the Khawaneej Road Improvement Project, which is now 60 percent complete. The project works include the construction of three intersections or service roads extending 23km along Al Khawaneej and Al Amardi Roads. "Works are expected to be completed and the tunnel to be opened for traffic this March," said Mattar Mohammed Al Tayer, Director General of RTA. "The Improvement of Al Khawaneej Roads Project is one of the key strategic projects for improving the links between Dubai and Sharjah through the improvement of vertical roads linking with the Emirates Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road up to Airport Street,” he said. The RTA head said that work is also 60 percent complete on the bridge leading to Al Awir, following the installation of bridge parts across Emirates Road in the direction of Abu Dhabi- Sharjah.
