Bonus for staff in vital sectors as Sheikh Mohammed announces new system

  DUBAI – Employees in the UAE’s vital sectors are set to get bonuses after the UAE Cabinet approved a bonus scheme for workers in emergency sectors. The system will ensure that these workers are compensated for the work they do during emergency situations, such as the coronavirus pandemic. "It is our duty to appreciate everyone who contributed and participated in bearing the burdens with us during the crisis," Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, said in Sunday’s Cabinet meeting. Remuneration will be given to those working in vital jobs in the Ministry of Health and Prevention, including medical staff, according to state news agency WAM. The work period under emergency cases must exceed two months in order to qualify for a bonus. The UAE Cabinet also approved the establishment of a national online payments business to provide secure and quick digital payment services. The new entity, Al Etihad Digital Payments Company, will provide digital payment services to government sectors in the UAE. "Our national digital economy is evolving and our institutions are keeping pace," Sheikh Mohammed said. He also announced the launch of the Governance System for the Federal Government Boards to aid the UAE “as life continues to return to our vital sectors”. The new governance system aims to “establish transparency, avoid conflicts of interests of the board members with the company's activity and with that of other companies, and strengthen the mechanisms of control and organisation," he said.
