The UAE Lottery, the country’s first and only government-regulated lottery, has officially launched, and with a huge difference: it is exclusively for residents or those visiting the UAE. The inaugural live draw called “Lucky Day” offers an unprecedented Dh100 million grand prize and will take place on December 14, 2024, creating a buzz among UAE residents eager to participate in this historic lottery. The UAE Lottery is run by Abu Dhabi-based The Game LLC and licensed by the General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority (GCGRA).

Eligibility rules: UAE residents or visitors

Participation in the UAE Lottery is strictly limited to individuals physically in the country as a “legal resident or visitor of the UAE”, according to The UAE Lottery terms and conditions as of Saturday (November 30). Entrants must be at least 18 years old and present within the country during gameplay. Those attempting to bypass these restrictions by using VPNs or other methods to mask their location risk having their tickets invalidated and forfeiting any winnings. The UAE Lottery’s exclusivity has sparked excitement among residents. “It’s incredible to see the UAE finally have its first official lottery that gives people a chance to change their life,” long-time Dubai expat Maricel (full name withheld) told Expat Media. As part of its consumer protection framework, the GCGRA has warned against unlicensed operators, emphasizing strict penalties for violators. “This lottery is designed to offer a transparent and secure gaming experience for those who call the UAE home,” said Jim Murren, Chairman of the GCGRA. “We are committed to ensuring that this opportunity is fair and reserved for UAE residents, who are the heart of this initiative.” The GCGRA cautioned players to avoid dealing with unlicensed operators, emphasizing that only official channels should be used to purchase tickets. “This ensures fair play and trust in the system,” Murren said.

How it works

Participants can easily join by registering on the UAE Lottery’s official website.  Tickets to the Dh100 million draw cost Dh50, while tickets to instant-win “Scratch Cards” start from Dh5 and offer chances to win ranging from Dh50,000 to Dh1 million.
