UAE mosques to host rain prayers on December 18
DUBAI – All mosques and prayer areas in the UAE will be holding a special prayer for rain on Friday (December 18). President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan called for the special rain prayer, known in Arabic as Salaat Al Istisqaa. The prayers will be performed ten minutes before the Friday prayer. The prayers were held to keep with the tradition of the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) to pray for the land to be blessed with rain. President Khalifa urged residents to pray for “rain, mercy and abundance upon the country and its people”. UAE authorities allowed mosques to resume Friday prayers on December 4, however, mosques are limited to 30 percent capacity.
