Walk Off the Earth’s Feliz Navidad viral cover: Expat Media talks to the band’s multi-instrumentalist on their YouTube fame

  DUBAI – Two years after it was first posted on YouTube, a video of Walk Off The Earth’s cover of the song "Feliz Navidad" went viral on the internet once again, with many users opting to share the video on social media to spread some Christmas cheer. The Canadian alternative rock band gave the song a more upbeat lift with a comedic twist – all five members sharing one guitar and donning Mask of Zoro-inspired costumes. The video received nearly three million page views as of Sunday (December 25). Walk Off The Earth are popular for their covers of pop genre music on YouTube, which includes their version of Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used to Know”, which gained more than 127 million views in four months. The band has also covered "Rude" by MAGIC!, "Someone Like You" by Adele and "Payphone" by Maroon 5. The band is composed of Gianni Nicassio, Sarah Blackwood, Ryan Marshall, Mike Taylor and Joel Cassady. We're just a bunch of crazy Canadians that love making music and fun videos. Now, back to that Christmas song. It makes us want to get up from our seats and dance. Who came up with the composition for the remake? The song was originally part of our Christmas movie "It's a Wonderful Mic" and we realized the Feliz Navidad scene would be a great way to help promote our Christmas movie, so we turned it in to its own video. Our fans are the best in the world and when they share our videos they seem to get a lot of views across the world! The best part of it all is that Jose Feliciano (original writer of Feliz Navidad) agreed to be in our movie once we told him we were going to cover his song!
