1 killed, 8 injured in Abu Dhabi car pile-up

DUBAI – One person died and eight others were injured in a 19-vehicle crash in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday (January 19), according to Abu Dhabi Police. Police said the motorists failed to leave adequate distance between vehicles while driving during heavy fog that swept through the capital on Tuesday morning in Al Mafraq area. A driver of a minibus died in the crash as a thick blanket of fog reduced road visibility. Those injured in the pile-up suffered minor to moderate injuries. Police did not reveal details about the victims but said that the deceased was Asian. Foggy weather has enveloped parts of the UAE in the early mornings since Saturday, with the weather bureau forecasting more fog until Wednesday. Police said at least 24 accidents were reported across the emirate during Sunday’s fog-hit roads. Earlier this week, police announced that the speed limit is reduced to 80kmp during fog.
