Sixteen men were arrested and 216 vehicles were seized across Sharjah, Dubai and Fujairah during the Eid Al Etihad holidays after police recorded a surge in reckless driving, noise disturbances and dangerous stunts on the roads. Sharjah Police impounded 106 vehicles and nine motorcycles after drivers were caught performing stunts, revving engines, blocking traffic and disturbing residents during the National Day celebrations. Brigadier Khalid Al Kay, Director of the Traffic and Patrols Department, said the violators “posed a danger to road users” and will face legal action. He stressed that police remain firm against “irresponsible behavior during national occasions.” In Fujairah, police arrested 16 young men and seized 27 vehicles between November 28 and December 2. Authorities said the group engaged in dangerous acts involving spray cans, foam and water cannons, putting themselves and others at risk. “Their behavior endangered lives and threatened public safety,” Fujairah Police said, confirming that all 16 were referred to the Public Prosecution. The emirate recorded 270 traffic accidents during the holiday period, most of them minor, though one caused injuries. Dubai Police reported 49 impounded vehicles, 25 seized motorcycles and 3,153 violations lodged during the 54th UAE National Day celebrations. Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic, said some motorists used the holiday “to engage in reckless and irresponsible driving,” including illegal races and dangerous stunts. “These practices do not reflect the values of Emirati society and contradict the spirit of this national occasion,” he said. Police shared video footage showing revellers leaning out of car windows, popping through sunroofs, and driving with windshields covered in stickers and spray paint — all violations that contributed to the crackdown across the three emirates.
