160 couples to tie knot in Al Ain mass wedding

  AL AIN - A total of 160 couples tied the knot in Al Ain City on Saturday (July 9). The mass wedding was a project of the Marriage Fund and was backed by the country's leaders and sheikhs. "Mass weddings, encouraged by the UAE leadership, contribute to reducing marriage costs and expenditure in the light of the continued support of the government," said Ali Salem Al Kaabi, Director of the Office of the Minister of Presidential Affairs, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Family Development Foundation. The Marriage Fund was established in 1992 to help spread the tradition of group weddings to other countries and to enable couples to make their dream of a big night come true. It has been noted in the UAE that couples usually spend more in trying to organise big ceremonies. The mass wedding allows young couples to celebrate the occasion without bearing the hefty costs of arranging parties, the organizer said. CLM/Expat Media
