Eshraq Properties and Reem Investments to consolidate assets

  ABU DHABI – Real estate developers Eshraq Properties and Reem Investments will merge amid challenges faced by the housing sector as a result of an economic slowdown in the emirate. Reuters cited a statement from the two firms as saying that merger talks are in an advanced stage. The statement said Reem will reportedly receive new shares in Eshraq in exchange for the latter's acquisition of Reem's entire business and assets. The merger will result in the creation of Abu Dhabi's second largest listed developer. The merger however is subject to conditions, including a final agreement on the terms and price as well as getting regulatory approvals, the companies also said. According to reports, Eshraq has assets of Dh1.46 billion (US$398 million) as of the end of June and reported a net profit of Dh636,000 for the second quarter compared to a year-earlier loss of Dh101.4 million. Reem's website states that the company has net assets of Dh5.3 billion as of the end of 2016 and its annual net profit rose two percent to Dh216 million. Shuaa Capital is acting as advisor to Eshraq in the merger discussions while Reem is being advised by First Abu Dhabi Bank.
