2 Dubai buildings face demolition, 400 tenants affected
Two residential buildings in Dubai are reportedly facing demolition after experts deemed them unsafe due to structural defects and severe corrosion. Authorities have suspended the issuance of rental contracts, registration of tenancy contracts and sale of apartments in Mazaya 3 and Mazaya 4 buildings while the issue is ongoing. The 14-storey residential buildings are located in Queue Point, Liwan. There are more than 400 homeowners in the buildings. Residents had complained about water leakage, cracks and damage in the floors, leading to government authorities to be involved. A committee formed by the Dubai Land Department (DLD) found that the residential buildings have several defects, including a breakdown of the concrete slabs. In an email to residents, the DLD said it will take necessary action to “prevent all dangers that could affect the safety of occupants” and that the decision to renovate or demolish the buildings will be made by August 1.
