2 Cebu officials confess to drug use, surrender to police

  CEBU CITY - Two community officials and three men who are in the watchlist of drug personalities have surrendered to police in Naga and Carcar cities in southern Cebu, Philippines. Carcar City Police Chief Alvin Balio said two community councilors in the city voluntarily surrendered themselves. Balio said the councilors confessed to him that they are drug users. In an interview with ExpatMedia.Net, Balio recalled that one of the officials even asked him, "Unsa akong surrenderan, sir? (What am I surrendering for, sir?)" "Akong giingnan nga ayaw ko pangutan-a ug unsa ang surenderan. Ikaw mismo kahibaw unsa imong surrenderan (I told him don't ask me what are you surrendering for. You know for yourself why are you surrendering)," Balio said. The councilors are among 363 people who surrendered to police in Carcar City since their implementation of an anti-drug campaign on July 3. At least 56 of those who surrendered are drug dealers, while 307 are identified as drug users. They were presented to Carcar City Mayor Nicepuro Apura on Thursday (July 8). However, only more than a hundred of them attended. They were made to sign a pledge to stop their involvement with illegal drugs. In a separate interview, Apura said he urged the two community officials not to seek reelection in the upcoming community and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections in October. In Naga City, three top drug personalities surrendered on Friday to Naga City Police Office. Naga City police officer John Clark said those who surrendered were Jeffrey Alfante, Noel Pinili, and Eduardo Ravanes Jr. Alfante is number four in the list while Pinili is top six and Ravanes is top nine. The three of them are from Barangay Tuyan and identified as level three drug dealers. Police said that a dealer in that level can dispose of 200 grams of shabu per week amounting to P400,000. Meanwhile, in Talisay City, 61 more drug pushers and drug users surrendered themselves to police.
