2-day salary cut for Filipino workers? Authority says viral post fake The Philippine government has debunked a “memo” of a two-day salary cut for Filipino government workers, saying the document is fake. This came after a document, purportedly from the president’s office, claimed that Filipino government workers will have a two-day salary cut in March to contribute to the relief fund for earthquake-hit Turkey. The Philippine government, through its Official Gazette, said that the document was not issued by the office of the president. The widely circulated document appears to show the letterhead of the Office of the President of the Philippines, with the signature of executive secretary Lucas Bersamin. However, it appears that the fake memo was derived from a similar document issued by the Pakistan government in 2022 to seek voluntary donation equivalent to two days’ salary for the Pakistani Prime Minister’s Flood Relief Fund. "The Office of The President and the Office of the Executive Secretary has never issued such 'Memorandum Circular'," according to a spokesperson of the Official Gazette. "Government officials and employees are hereby advised to practice precaution and to observe vigilance against this deceptive information," the spokesperson added. A magnitude 7.8 earthquake hit Turkey and Syria on February 6, killing more than 46,000 people. The Philippines and the UAE were among the countries that sent teams to help in search and rescue efforts. The Philippines also donated P15.5 million to aid earthquake victims in Turkey.
