2 Dubai restaurants closed over cockroach in food

  DUBAI - Two restaurants under Taj Mahal Group was fined and temporarily shut down by the Dubai Municipality following the reported incident of a resident finding a cockroach in his dinner. The Dubai resident found a cockroach in a chola bhatura dish that he ordered from Taj Spice Restaurant at a food court of a mall in Dubai. The resident took photos and filed the complaint to the mall management. An inspection ensued where the municipality fined the restaurant and asked it to be shut down while it replaces its wooden furniture with other material. The other restaurant that was temporarily shut down was the Wok & Spice restaurant, which is still under the Taj Mahal Group, located in the same food court. In a statement, the restaurant management said both outlets will re-open after five working days when the municipality conducts a follow-up inspection to ensure that their recommendations were followed. The amount of the fine was not revealed. Venkatesh, CEO & Director of Taj Mahal Group of Restaurants said in a statement that they apologized to the customer who was inconvenienced by the unfortunate incident. He said that the management has undertaken "a thorough pest control" of all their food handling areas. He also added that actions have been taken against the individuals responsible for the maintenance of the outlet.
