2 Filipinos, Nepalese in UAE win Dh100,000 each in Mahzooz

Two Filipinos and a Nepalese—all expatriates in the UAE—won Dh100,000 each in the latest Mahzooz draw, organisers said on Wednesday (February 1). Filipinos Marc and Kevin, and Faguni from Nepal won the cash prize in the guaranteed weekly raffle draw as part of Saturday’s big draw for the Dh10 million jackpot. Kervin, who has been living in the UAE in the last 7 years, said he “started crying with joy” the minute he found out that he won a substantial amount. He wants to use a portion of the money to invest in a mango farm in the Philippines. The 35-year-old works as an office boy at a jewellery store in Dubai. “When my old school classmate informed me that I had won, I checked my Mahzooz account to reconfirm, and was so taken aback that I started crying with joy. I couldn't sleep that night," Kervin said. It was an emotional win for his family, too. When Kervin broke the news to his mother, it was the first time he saw her smile since Kervin's father died last year. Another Filipino winner, Marc, 35, said he has been participating in Mahzooz at least 70 times. Marc works as a weighing bridge operator for a recycling company in Sharjah. The Filipino, who has lived in the UAE in the last three years, said he will use the money to buy land in the Philippines and invest in a small business. Meanwhile, Nepalese winner Faguni, said he was surprised to win after participating in Mahzooz every week for more than a year. "This magnificent reward will change my life for the better. I have often participated in the draw, but it was a pleasant surprise to win,” Faguni said. The 46-year-old father of two is a construction worker in Abu Dhabi. He has been living in the UAE in the past 11 years. Like Kervin and Marc, Faguni also wants to buy land in his home country. He plans to grow vegetables there.
