Two individuals in the UAE have been fined a total of Dh600,000 for illegally employing 12 workers, according to the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Ports Security (ICP). Authorities arrested the violators during inspections conducted in February. The 12 workers were each fined Dh1,000 and subsequently deported. The ICP revealed that in February alone, it carried out 252 inspections, checking 4,771 establishments for residency violations. Several individuals were arrested for offenses such as working without proper permits or being employed by companies other than their sponsors. Major-General Suhail Saeed Al Khaili, Director-General of the ICP, reiterated the strict penalties for those violating labor laws. “Employing or housing illegal workers carries a fine of up to Dh50,000. Those who recruit workers without providing them jobs or allowing them to work for other companies face similar penalties,” he warned. Authorities have intensified inspections following the expiration of a four-month visa amnesty in December, during which 6,000 violators were arrested and most were deported. ICA/Expat Media
