2 Indians win kilo of gold during Dubai Shopping Festival

Two Indians were one of the latest people to win a kilo of gold this Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF), which saw 100 shoppers taking home a total prize of 25kg gold so far. The raffle draws, by the Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group, gave shoppers at participating jewellery stores the chance to win the glittering prize. DSF closes on January 29. Nilesh Updadhyay said the win was “completely out of the blue for me”. “We were extremely excited when we received the initial phone call, in fact excited is an understatement,” Updadhyay said. What does the Indian national plan with the prize? “The prize will be kept and used in the long run, whether it is sold or converted to money we are not sure yet, but it is a good long-term investment." Angelina, the other Indian winner, will be using the gold to buy an apartment for her family, her mother in India said. “We are going to be using this prize to convert into money and use it as a down payment for a one-bedroom apartment for me and my daughters,” Angelina’s mother said. Other winners are Katerina Vayou from Ukraine Fatima Zimbi from UAE, who oth said they will use the gold to buy things for their children. "In the beginning, I was skeptical, because I thought it was unlikely that I would win something. Once I received the prize and I held it in my hands, I realized it was real. I was simultaneously shocked and pleased,” said Vayou, who has two children. Thurein from Myanmar said he has handed over his gold prize to his wife. “A happy wife makes a happy husband," he said. To enter the gold draw, shoppers must spend a minimum of Dh500 on gold jewellery at participating outlets to get one entry ticket, or Dh500 on diamond and pearl jewellery to get two tickets.
