2 killed in Sharjah supermarket fire

  SHARJAH – Police on Saturday (April 15) continued an investigation into a fire in a Sharjah supermarket that left two people dead and five others injured. Fire broke out at the Al Manama Supermarket on the ground floor of the 16-storey building along Al Arouba Street close to midnight on Friday, according to the Sharjah Civil Defence. The fire completely destroyed the ground floor and the first floor of the building and firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control early on Saturday morning. The blaze in Sharjah followed a string of fires in the UAE in three days. Earlier on Friday, a fire broke out at Splash Centre mall in Ajman. The Ajman Civil Defence said that the fire started on the roof where garbage boxes were stored. There were no reports of injuries. On Thursday, fire erupted at a residential building near the British Embassy in Bur Dubai. There were no casualties, although many residents were treated for smoke inhalation.
