2 sports facilities shut down in Dubai

  DUBAI – Officials in Dubai have shut down two sports facilities for repeated violations of safety rules against the spread of Covid-19. The facilities were closed over the weekend after a surprise inspection by officials of Dubai Municipality, Dubai Economy and Dubai Sports Council. Officials also fined six other sports establishments for failing to impose social distancing on guests and the wearing of face masks. Eight other sports facilities were given warnings. The Dubai Sports Council has issued a detailed list of protocols, in accordance with the safety guidelines issued by Dubai’s Supreme Committee of Crisis and Disaster Management and other relevant authorities, for sports and fitness centres operating under Covid-19 regulations. The facilities will have to maintain the hygiene and sanitization requirements as mandated by authorities, which includes regular cleaning regime, and ensuring that safe distancing is maintained at all times. Shower facilities, lockers and changing rooms are permitted, on condition that cleaning and sanitisation is performed after every use, or at a minimum once every hour. The operators will also have to follow all the other safety protocols and guidelines – like imposing the two-metre social distancing, wearing masks, providing sanitisers, among others. Facilities unable to maintain social distancing must reduce their capacity, while fitness centres need to make sure there are no more than two trainees with every Personal Trainer, and that the mandatory safety distance is maintained between them. Facilities are required to have a contingency plan in case of a possible Covid-19 patient on the premises, and contactless screening of guests, visitors and contractors is mandatory. ICA/Expat Media
