2 more years of wearing face masks: expert

  DUBAI – The number of Covid-19 cases in the UAE has dropped to its lowest in a year, but an Emirates Group Security official said people shouldn’t expect to go mask-free anytime soon. "It's going to be a while before the status of Covid-19 changes and there's going to be at least two more years of people wearing masks," said Zack Zainal Abidin, senior vice president of Emirates Group Security. Abidin made his comments on the sidelines of the Global Aviation Security Symposium in Dubai on Sunday (October 3), The National reported. The SVP of Emirates Group Security said airline passengers will continue to wear face masks on flights for at least two more years. “Covid is here to stay and it won’t change until it’s regarded as endemic rather than a pandemic,” he said, adding that it is going to “take some time” before Covid-19 reaches that stage. In the UAE, authorities in September started easing rules regarding the wearing of face masks in public. According to the Ministry of Health and Prevention, masks are no longer mandatory when at the beach, in a car with members of the same household, and five other situations. ICA/Expat Media
