Abu Dhabi wages war against fake products and seizes over 200,000 counterfeits in 247 raids

  ABU DHABI - Hundreds of thousands of fake products were seized in a spate of raids in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western Region. Among the 200,428 items confiscated were auto spare parts, electronic devices, clothes, accessories and beauty products. The crackdown on counterfeit products came after authorities received 945 complaints from consumers and trademark owners about illegal practices by some businesses, street vendors and others. The Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (ADDED) conducted 247 raids into stores and commercial establishments in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western Region. ADDED's Commercial Protection Division said 1,555 fines were issued against stores and establishments that violated the laws and regulations. Seven stores were closed. Khalifa Bin Salem Al Mansouri, ADDED Acting Undersecretary, stressed the ADDED is committed to eliminating all negative business practices. "Some negative trends seen in the emirate are the results of wrong practices from some individuals and business owners who are unaware of the laws and regulations organizing business activities in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi," said Al Mansouri.
