Suspect sentenced to death penalty for Arabian Ranches double murder

The Dubai Criminal Court on Wednesday (April 20) sentenced a construction worker with the death penalty for the murder of an Indian couple in Arabian Ranches. The 26-year-old Pakistani suspect stabbed to death the couple Hiren Adhiya, 48, and Vidhi Adhiya, 40, in their villa at Arabian Ranches in Dubai on the night of June 17, 2020. The construction worker carried out maintenance work in the villa in December 2019 and planned to steal money and valuables in the house. The suspect hid outside the villa for six hours before sneaking in through an unlocked patio door after the lights were switched off. He took Dh1,965 from the wallet on the ground floor and went upstairs to search for more. Hiren woke up from the sound of the bedside drawer opening and was stabbed to death by the suspect. The wife was also attacked and stabbed to death in the same manner. Forensic reports revealed that Hiren was stabbed 10 times in the head, left shoulder, chest, and abdomen. Vidhi was stabbed 14 times in the head, neck, chest, face, ear, and right arm. The powerful stabs penetrated their blanket that wrapped the couple in their sleep. The suspect encountered the couple’s elder daughter, 18 at the time, when fleeing the bedroom and stabbed her in the neck. The wounded daughter and her sister, then 13, witnessed their parent’s death before the elder daughter called the police and her father’s friend. The knife used in the heinous crime was found 500 meters from the villa. The bloody handprint on the villa’s wall and a mask on the victims’ bed with blood were found to have matched the suspect’s DNA. The suspect was arrested in Sharjah a few days later. He admitted to the charges of the premeditated murder of the couple, the attempted murder of their daughter, and theft during the police questioning. He explained that he was desperate for searching for money for his mother that became sick in Pakistan just three days before the murder. During his court appearance in November 2020, he suddenly changed his plea and denied all charges. In February 2021, both the daughters and their deceased father’s friend testified in court. The elder daughter recounted how she heard cries for help from her parents’ bedroom around 1:30am that time and used her mobile flashlight to check. She met him at the room’s door and suddenly was stabbed by him at sight. She was able to kick him before his rush attempt to leave the house. The deceased father’s friend said that the elder daughter called him around 2am. She was said to be screaming hysterically while saying that “her mother was dead, her father was still moving, and she was stabbed too.” The friend thought that the daughter was having a nightmare but still rushed to the villa with his wife and saw the police and the ambulance in the place.
