In a compassionate gesture, the UAE has granted royal pardon to 220 Filipinos jailed for various offenses. The pardon, has been hailed by Philippine officials as a testament to the strong bilateral ties between the two nations. “We are deeply appreciative of the continued generosity and understanding shown by the government and people of the UAE towards Filipinos,” according to the Philippine Embassy and Philippine Consulate General Dubai in a joint statement. “The pardon granted reaffirms the strong and growing relationship between our two nations, built on mutual respect, cooperation, and shared values. It is a testament to the commitment to foster peace, reconciliation, and human dignity," the missions added. The Philippine government is coordinating with UAE authorities to facilitate the repatriation of the pardoned individuals. “We are committed to ensuring their safe return,” said Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Eduardo Jose de Vega. Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. expressed gratitude to UAE leaders Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. “This act of compassion strengthens our enduring friendship,” he said.
