Abu Dhabi Education Council okays 3 percent tuition hike following 'rigorous' inspection of the schools

  ABU DHABI – Twenty-four private schools in the emirate will increase their tuition by three percent in the 2017-2018 academic year, the Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) has announced. The list of schools that will increase their tuition rates was not immediately available however. In a statement, the ADEC said the tuition hike was approved following "rigorous" ADEC inspections as the council pointed out that they disapproved requests to increase fees made by 60 other educational institutions. The ADEC regulates the education sector in the emirate. Hamad Al Daheri, ADEC executive director for private schools and quality assurance, said the council wants to ensure that students in the emirate get quality yet affordable education. According to records, there are 191 private schools in the emirate and nearly 75 percent of students enrolled in those schools belong to expatriate families. Parents have reportedly complained that the tuition increase is ill-timed amidst economic slowdown in the region.
